Curriculum Enhancement
Our timetables are jam packed with our National Curriculum offer BUT our Fazakerley Primary Curriculum is more than algebra in Maths, commas in English and photosynthesis in Science!
This is something we refer to as our CHARACTER CURRICULUM.
Every exchange, conversation or assembly that we have with your children, we are working in partnership with you in contributing to their character. Yes we expect ambitious progress and attainment year on year and we want our children to leave in Year 6 having smashed their SATs BUT we are equally as invested in the little humans whose character we are contributing to and what kind of person they are and will go onto be!
We are in the incredibly fortunate position that over 400 of you have chosen our school where your amazing children attend every day and we are working every day in partnership with you, in moulding these little people and supporting in the development of their character.
OUR FAZAKERLEY FAMILY
Our school day is around 6 ½ hours per day, longer if your child comes to extended services and we are constantly complimented by visitors to our school how much of a family feel we radiate. During the school day when our actual families are not around, we are each other’s family, Our Fazakerley Family.
Assemblies
Every Friday we have our celebration assembly to celebrate those who have excelled each week from each class. We will all remember when we were at school, the butterflies in your tummy when the Head Teacher would be reading the certificate winners!
These assemblies contribute to the pupils’ self esteem, confidence and sense of pride.
Each Monday, we have our CHARACTER ASSEMBLY. These assemblies have a different focus each week but include issues surrounding:
Safeguarding – stranger danger, being safe online, abuse and control.
Protected characteristics – equality, racism, hate crime and misogyny.
British values – democracy, the armed forces, immigration, the Royal family and armistice.
Mental health – including the power of breath work and exercise how to stay resilient.
Manners, finances, goals, respect, tolerance, consent, careers/aspirations and much more!
Enrichment
We have an enrichment map which details the learning visits out of school and the visitors we have into school, purposefully timed so that it facilitates our learning in the curriculum.
Our trips support not only the learning that is taking place in the curriculum but also the personal development of our pupils and include:
A visit to 6 different places of worship, one in each year group alongside the focus religion in that year group.
Visits which showcase the culture capital that our amazing city has to offer including Liverpool museums, art galleries, theatres, the world famous Albert Dock.
We welcome returning visitors to our school each year as well as developing new links such as:
Merseyside Police
CELLS project, a behaviour intervention programme aimed at educating about the real consequences of crime and incarceration.
Eyes open from Enrich Education- a performance and workshops funded through cobalt housing. This was a dramatic performance observed by Y6 and their families on the effects of drugs, alcohol, vaping and peer pressure.
Hate crime
HMRC discussing tax facts
Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service
Royal Navy
Mindset Mission and many more
Our behaviour policy contributes to this CHARACTER CURRICULUM. It is a POSITIVE behaviour policy which focusses on a restorative approach.
School time is valuable, so we ensure that learning and activities are focused on the most essential knowledge and skills.
Each half term, every year group is assigned a "home school project." These projects enhance the in-school learning across the broader curriculum, involve families in their child's education, and foster greater engagement for our pupils.
Check this out from Mia last year in Year 4.
Following her work on pointillism looking at the work of Yayoi Kusama, Mia spent hours during the half term on her home school project. She produced this stunnning piece of work!
Mr Flesher sent an image to an art gallery in New York and we got a reply!
At the start of each year, our pupils are given an Enrichment Passport. This is a varied list of activities to complete at home, enhancing their learning.
Children have their passport signed by their parents/carers once they have completed the task.
Our curriculum places a strong emphasis on aspirations, with an even greater focus in Years 5 and 6 as we prepare pupils for secondary education, where a compulsory careers curriculum is in place. Regular visitors to the school include local barristers, the Director of Immigration (who has held various roles within immigration), a recruitment consultant, and many others.
We also implement the Positive Footprints careers programme in Years 5 and 6.
Careers Week
Residentials.
Our children in Years 3 and 4 enjoy a one night residential (2 nights in Y5) at Crosby Hall Educational Trust (CHET).
In Y6 our children enjoy 2 nights at PEAK Venture.
Daily Collective Act of Worship
We practise intention setting and expressing gratitude as part of our collective worship.
Charity.
We support many charities throughout the year including:
