Science Subject Specific Pedagogies.

In addition to our generic pedagogies, which are:

  • Flexible groupings

  • Revisiting prior learning from lessons

  • Retrieval of prior knowledge in different contexts

  • Visualisers for modelling

  • I do, we do,you do

  • Chunking lesson

  • Dual coding

  • Strategies for remembering

  • Sequential graphics

  • Working walls (consistent subject specific design)

  • Explicit teaching of vocabulary. (E.g. Use of visualiser / demonstrate methods and techniques).

We also have the following subject specific pedagogies for Science:

  • All teachers in all classes will model practical tasks giving clear demonstrations to children on how to use the equipment and the expectations for the practical task

  • The children will participate in hands on practical work where it is appropriate. At times it will be more appropriate for teachers to do a whole class model

  • Children will be given opportunities to rehearse oral justifications and explanations for predictions and evaluations using appropriate scientific vocabulary

  • All units will end with a TAPs (Teacher Assessment in Primary Science) to support with assessment

  • All teachers will make appropriate adaptations for SEN and priority 20% children (writing frames, visual aids, word banks etc)

  • Regular representation of the subject within ‘Low Stakes Friday Curriculum Quiz’ to reinforce knowledge, skills and understanding and aid cognitive load. Teachers guided by subject lead’s key questioning document.
